The Lightsaber

I have been a fan of the lightsaber as long as I can remember, so much so that in secondary school I sincerely asked my #science teacher Mr Jones why more effort has not been put in to understanding how to create them? 🤷🏼‍♂️

The kyber crystal was force attuned and would generally be aligned to the ‘light’ side of the force with padawans and younglings travelling to the ice caves on Illum to mine their crystal - using the force to find their one, in an almost symbiotic way. 

The crystal would then colour to reflect the owner, most commonly blue or green. Occasionally there would be other colours, most notably Mace Windu’s purple blade, the Temple Guards orange sabers and of course Ahsoka’s pair of white lightsabers. 

The renowned and feared red or crimson blades used by Darth Vader and the Sith were created by dominating the crystal using the ‘dark side’ of the force and it was believed to reflect the crystal ‘bleeding’. 

Few materials could defend against a lightsaber and the weapon itself was designed to reflect the Jedi’s role in peacekeeping; the use of the weapon was a last resort and even when causing harm was only designed to cause as little pain and suffering as the user intended. A well trained Jedi could wield the weapon in combat but also use the force to enhance its defence and attack capabilities, even deflecting energy based attacks.
